Big Brothers

Aiden is 7 weeks old now. He is lovely and cute. He has brought some big changes with him and some of the biggest have been with Owen and Ethan.

Owen... Owen is a great help to me really he is. He loves to help so much that he is often in the way and I have to point out that I am Aiden's mommy and the boss. He has also taken to waking up in the middle of the night SCREAMING for me. This is especially fun when it happens about 30 min after I have gotten back in bed after putting Aiden back down. My reaction to this has been to wake him before I get in bed. I know what you are thinking "you never wake a sleeping child" but really it isnt that bad. I wake him up just enough to tell him it is potty time. He takes my hand and walks to the bathroom. When he is done he gets back in bed, tells me he loves me, asks for water and is back asleep. For the most part this has stopped the might wakings screaming for me. This has also had the side effect of Owen waking dry in the morning 9 times out of 10. Soon I will try breaking the night wakings and hoping he stays asleep.

Ethan... Oh my Ethan. He just wants more attention. He is acting out in a bad way. He is biting and not listening. He thinks it is funny to throw things. He doesnt understand why he cant be on my lap while Aiden is feeding. On a REALLY bad day is is wetting his pants on purpose. God help us both. He is also really cute in his wanting to help. He wants to help me make "mommy milk". When I am pumping he wants to rub on me, touch me and a few times he has tried helping me squeeze milk out.

The boys are Awesome big brothers. I am so lucky!

Aiden's birth story

Aiden is sleeping and the boys are watching a movie in their room so I am going to take this chance to write this rather than taking a nap or cleaning house.

August 14th was a very difficult day for me. The day before my planned c-section. It was spent making sure everything was ready. Cleaning, organizing, notes, lists, crying, more cleaning and even a little cooking. The crying was the most difficult part. I could not stop. Owen and Ethan knew the basics of what was going to happen but they couldnt be ready. We were changing their world without them really knowing. Every time I looked at them I cried and they noticed. They kept hugging me and that made me cry harder. By the time they were in bed for the night I was exhausted.

Sleep never came. We had to be at the hospital at 530a for prep. Every time I closed my eyes I would think of something else that I should do before I was gone for a few days. At 230 I was still up doing things. At 330 the alarm went off so I could shower. At 430 we left and by 5 we were in the hospital. Because we were early they didnt have a room ready for us (they were just putting it together). As soon as we got in a room I had Erick snap one last pregnancy photo.

No sooner did Erick snap the picture did the nurse come back and say we were moving rooms. Can I just say now that I HATED this nurse. She was just my prep nurse and not part of my team but she drove me batty. She talked to me like I was a kid "ok mama time to go peepee in the cup" Anyway we get into our new room and get all hooked up. I requested that I not get cathed til in the OR and after my spinal (so much better). BUT I reacted to the IV and almost blacked out. That was new. Erick said I turned pale and looked scared (I was).

My OB came in as soon as he got there. He had starbucks. It smelled so good because I hadnt eaten in hours. He said they were just finishing prep and we were waiting on one last member of the team to show up so we were running a little late.

Once it was time they walked us to another room. They told Erick to wait there and I followed the nurse into the OR. I told them my horror stories about almost being rolled off the table last time and she promised that it wouldnt happen. I also told her I didnt want my left arm strapped and she oked that as well. The spinal was difficult again. He kept hitting a nerve and this would send a shooting pain into my right hip/butt. He didnt take as many attempts as the boys did but this hurt a lot worse. The nurse holding me kept talking me through it and even refused to leave me when another nurse asked her for help.

It wasnt long til I was numb, cathed, and lying on my back getting basted with iodine. Then it wasnt long til they were started and Erick was brought in. Some of the next parts are a little fuzzy but the just of it is I started to get cold, in getting cold my nose started running, because of that I started snuffing, this caused my tummy to fill with yuck and make me feel sick. Eventually this led to me spitting up.

A planned c/s is a lot different than an emergency one. For one everyone is in a better mood and a lot more talkative. They also take more time. I was told it was 17min from start time to baby cry. Well this didnt go as planned for the OB. He had to clean up my scar tissue and things took a little longer to get through. BUT I did hear some interesting stories LOL.

At 813 we heard it. Aiden Michael was here. Erick even got to cut the cord.

Aiden's apgars were 9 and 9 he weighed in at 6lb 15oz and 19in long.

Erick went with Aiden to do skin to skin while I was closed up. Even this took longer than they thought. My BP dropped way way low. When I got into recovery they brought Aiden and Erick to me but I wasnt allowed to hold him yet because they didnt want me up. My BP was still VERY low (in the 90or80 over 50or60 range). When they let me try to set up it dropped again and I had to lie flat again. Eventually they got me sitting and I got to attempt to feed Aiden. I got the itchies again and scratched off my lip under my nose even with being given Benidryl (sp?).

Eventually we got moved into our final room. I had to have liquid diet for 2 meals but Aiden was here and beautiful.

Around noon Erick left for lunch with his mom then she came back with him to visit. At 4 my mom showed as did a friend and at 5 Erick came back with the boys.

The boys were so excited to meet Aiden. They had picked out gifts for him. Aiden had gifts for the boys too. BUT I must admit as cute as it was having the boys at the hospital it was just as hard and even harder to have them leave without me and Aiden.

Over the next few days more people came to visit.

Aiden also spent some time under the lights. The nice thing was that he stayed in my room for it.

Aiden was born on Monday and on Friday we finally got to go home.

Our homecoming was so cute. The boys and my mom made a sign for the wall that said Welcome home Aiden. The boys colored hearts and put stickers on them. For the next 3 days Owen made us take Aiden to the sign so he could show his brother.

Allergies

We have known for a long time that Ethan had allergies. We had the blood draw test awhile ago and were given a list of things he was allergic to. But the blood test is limited and only tests for 15 things. We wanted to be sure he didn't have more allergies and we needed to know how bad the peanut reaction is. So we opted for the more formal test a prick test. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! I mean really worst thing I have ever done as a mommy. First off I was hugely pregnant. Then Ethan didn't understand what was going on just that he was being hurt. I had to hold Ethan down while they poked him about 40 times as he SCREAMED that it hurt.

Then once that was done I had to hold him down for another 20 min on his belly so the test could work. The good news is he only reacted to cats and peanuts and neither are really horrible. The bad news is we we get to repeat the test again in Jan.

Im back!

It has been way to long sense I was last on blogger. It is one of those things where if you dont do it, it gets easier not to do it. So look for a bunch of posts tomorrow to catch up on our lives.

Where's the baby?

Today we had my weekly OB check. I found the 2 lbs I lost last week. I am up a total of 15 lbs again. The wait was crazy today. We got there early like always (like they ask), peed in the cup, sat down and waited. In a timely manner we were called when we stood she said Erick could sit it was just a vitals check (bp 110/70). When I joined him back in the waiting room we didnt have to wait long before we were called back. Then the wait really started. We were in the TINY exam room nearly 50 min.

One the Dr came in I asked him how big the baby is expected to be. I really love my OB. His response was ...

"How big were your boys again?"
Me: "5lb4 and 5lb9"
OB: "Wow nearly 11 lbs of baby. Well you can expect this one to be more than the boys alone and less than them together."
Me: "Thanks Doc."

So because the Dr was a smart ass the baby decided to be one too. When the Dr tried to get him on the doppler he was literally running from it. I mean you could see my stomach shift. You would hear 2-3 beats then nothing. So an u/s was called for and we got to find out.

Presentation: cephalic

Amniotic Fluid: normal

MEASUREMENTS:

BPD 37 W0D 9.13CM
HC 37 W5D
AC 34 W0D
FL 36 W1D

EFW: 2618 GRAMS 5lbs 12oz

They gave us a few pictures but they are really hard to see as there isnt much room in there.

When we got home Ethan had the following convo with me after I showed him the pictures of the baby.

Ethan: I have to play with my baby!
Me: Where is your baby?
E: hum I have to find him. (looks under the tv then at me) I think he's in your belly.
Me: oh this is your baby in my belly
E: yes, he is in your belly. You ate him. Spit him out!

Hun if it were only that easy. LOL

appointment and hospital rules

This morning I had another appointment with the OB. First was the scale and I lost 2lbs in the last 2 weeks. I am now up a total of 13lbs (or 7lbs depending on which nurse and what date they are using). My blood pressure was good at 110/70. I got my first internal check along with my group B strep culture. My cervix is closed tight and still long. The OB says he doubts I will have any trouble making it to my c-section. Speaking of c-section.... It is going to be Aug 15th at 7:30 am (provided we dont get bumped). I have my pre op with the OB Aug 10th and with the hospital on Aug 14th. I will also have a phone interview with the hospital sometime next week.

This time we are happy to have visitors at the hospital. On Aug 15th we are asking that visitors dont come before 1 and leave by 5. This will give us time to get settled in the room and hopefully get me out of bed. The leaving by 5 is because the boys will be coming to visit then.

Normal visiting hours are from 11a-8p. Visitors are limited to 2 at a time and no one under 16. My cell will be on as will Erick's if you want to call to find out if there is room to visit. 24-hour patient and visitor parking is available in the parking lot across the street from the hospital at the Northwest corner of Maple and California Streets. The underground parking garage on Maple Street is open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. The cost for parking in either lot is $5 per vehicle, per day. Anyone with a Handicapped placard can access our parking lots at no charge. The Emergency Department parking lot on Maple Street is reserved only for patients seeking emergency medical assistance.

Meal times for the hospital are...
Breakfast 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
Lunch 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Dinner 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
please avoid these times unless you want to watch me eat.

Daddy weekend

The other weekend I had some things I had to do for an upcoming wedding. Both days I was out of the house just after breakfast and back at dinner time if not later (Saturday I wasnt home til 930pm). So the boys had a whole weekend with daddy. They had lots of fun playing playdough, outside in the water, at the mall and putting on mommy's makeup. So I thought I would show you all the fun Erick had with the boys. HEHEHE Erick now understands what I do daily and has been asking what more he can do to help me.

BTW trying on bridesmaid dresses at 8 months pregnant is not fun. It is made even less fun when you are told that in order to get the dress over your tummy/baby you need a dress 6-8 sizes bigger than normal and they dont carry them that big in the store. Then it is made more fun by the store sending you to another store telling you they have your dresses only to drive 2.5 hrs to the store and finding out they dont have the dresses and havent heard from the store that sent you (who told us they called the store they were sending us to). So after trying on dresses all day that dont fit and driving way out of the way it took me something like 4-5 hrs to drive home. FUN. My feet were the size of tree trunks.
